In software development deciding which implementation option to choose can be difficult. There are lots of existing frameworks, tools and services to use, as well as the option to build your own solution from scratch.

As a result, software developers tend decide on an implementation based on their own personal preference or rely on gut feelings. Although this might work in some cases, it often doesn’t take other factors into account.

Does the solution align with the longer term roadmap? What are the implications in regards to the ongoing cost or maintenance? What’s the level of support required for this solution?

To provide a more quantitative approach to this problem, I created a spreadsheet that allows developers to evaluate different options in a more intuitive way.

Quantitative: emphasize objective measurements and the statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires, and surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical data using computational techniques.

Step 1: Copy Spreadsheet

Make a copy of the spreadsheet so you can edit it as you need.
